The recent slump in oil price has sent shockwaves through the oil and gas industry. Although the industry has experienced a number of similar downturns in the last few decades - and survived - it is still not clear what lessons have been learned; e.g. the industry remained relatively complacent in addressing issues associated with spiralling overheads, skills shortage, long-term succession planning and ageing assets when the oil price revolved around its peak. As the current downturn comes at a time when many assets reach or exceed their design life, the primary challenge is to maintain production at an economic level and comply with regulatory and legislative requirements, whilst planning and waiting for an upturn and an oil price recovery so that projects, which were put on hold, or new development activities can be re-initiated.
It is now widely accepted that corrosion plays a dominant role in reducing reliability and service life of offshore assets, and an effective and correctly implemented Corrosion Management System would take care of the majority of associated integrity issues. Interestingly enough, in our experience, operators still seem to spend a disproportionate amount of time and resources by adopting a reactive 'fire-fighting' approach rather than on long-term strategic planning. Whilst this type of reactive integrity management may be tolerated during acceptable oil-price periods, it certainly becomes problematic and unsustainable under current economic climate.
In this webinar, we will aim to provide attendees with an overview of the Corrosion Management and continuous improvement concepts applicable to Oil and Gas offshore assets, where the focus is on a combination of challenges associated with economic, management, operational and production scenarios.
The topics covered will be also supported by relevant case studies, which will include discussions regarding the importance of Corrosion Risk Assessments, Risk Based Inspection, shut-in and planned re-start scenarios, continued data gathering, development of Corrosion Control Strategies and the implementation of Corrosion Managements Systems.

Ian Laing is a Principal Corrosion Engineer, with over 15 years' experience in materials and corrosion engineering in the nuclear and oil and gas industries. He has provided corrosion consultancy for Front-End-Engineering and design projects, and for continuous corrosion management of new and mature projects.
Ian completed his MSc / PhD in Corrosion Science and Engineering at the UMIST Corrosion and Protection Centre. Ian is NACE Coating Inspector Level 3 certified, and he is currently working for the ROSEN Group.
Principal Corrosion Engineer
Daniel Sandana is a Principal Corrosion Engineer, and has over 8 years' experience in materials and corrosion engineering within the Oil & Gas Industry. He has developed and supported implementation of Corrosion Management Strategies and Corrosion Risk Assessments for offshore platforms and pipelines essentially in the North Sea and in Asia Pacific. His experience covers both new asset designs and integrity challenges associated with ageing production assets.
Daniel completed his MSc in Materials Engineering in France and is in the process of completing a part-time PhD at Newcastle University on the subject of Stress Corrosion Cracking in CO2 transport pipelines. Daniel is a chartered Engineer, and he is currently working for the ROSEN Group.
