Optimize Exploration and Production of Oil and In-Service Fluids with Data Visualization

Sponsored by: PerkinElmer

Focused on:

  • Data
  • Analysis

Date: 28 April

Time: 4PM London/11AM New York

As the number in-service fluid samples grow, scientists are faced with an insurmountable amount of data and need tools to help visualize complex relationships within their data, organize their data, identify data trends, and share data with collaborators. Data interpretation needs be more of a holistic understanding of the equipment’s reliability versus the reading of a single data point.

In this presentation, we will upload real in-service fluid examples into Spotfire, a dynamic visualization tool that helps scientists better understand relationships of in-service fluid samples. We will start with data acquisition and advanced data analysis, and follow the process through data visualization. We will explore complex outputs and demonstrate the value of multi-directional interpretation. By applying extensive correlation techniques within Spotfire, it is now possible take an in-depth look at large amounts of in-service fluid data.

Presented by

David Wooton, Ph.D.,

CEO of Wooton Consulting

Dr. David Wooton is an expert in the lubricant industry. He has a Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where he also completed a two year post-doctoral research project in analytical chemistry. He has over 30 years of experience as an analytical chemist, specializing in fuel and lubricant analyses.

Over the years, Dr. Wooton has been involved in developing methods to analyze in-service fluids that are being used by testing labs all over the world. He is best known for his expertise in FTIR analyses of in-service fluids. He is currently the Co-Chairman of ASTM D02.96.3 Committee on in-service FTIR and ASTM D02.C01 Committee on Turbine Oil Monitoring, Problems and Systems. In 2001, Dr. Wooton founded his own company (Wooton-Consulting) and has helped many companies around the world. He is on the front line of lubricant root-cause analyses problem solving, preventative maintenance developments, and lubricant analyses method developments. He has a unique understanding of all areas of lubrication chemistry and the analyses of lubricants in-service.

In recent years, Dr. Wooton has focused on the problems of varnish and is becoming one of the top experts in the area. Dr. David Wooton has given lectures all over the world, published over 60 articles and has been awarded 15 patents in chemistry and lubricants.
