De-Risk Your Operations, Maximize Your Returns, and Achieve Peace of Mind
When done properly and for the right reasons, outsourcing the operation and maintenance (O&M) of power delivery networks can bring significant value to the asset owners. This webinar discusses the top reasons why this is the case.
In particular, we will discuss the following:
• Outsourced O&M contracts transfer the operational risk to the service providers. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) can be established to guarantee the agreed technical and budget performance.
• Investment decisions and individual core functions may remain with the asset owner or may be assumed by the service provider.
• Outsourcing the O&M activities allows the asset owner to concentrate on their core business while the service provider expertly manages their network assets. Service providers bring to the table competences that may not be present in the asset owner’s organization. Owners can then leverage the knowledge and expertise of the service provider to hedge against operation and maintenance risks that may not be at the core of the owners’ business.
• The network operation costs become predictable & guaranteed. In some case, service packages can truly be “care-free,†and the operation and management experience, processes, and methodologies of the service provider enable the increase of the profitability and efficiency of the owners’ assets.
• We will present real case examples of outsourced O&M activities.
Presented by
Dr. Ramón Nadira,
Head Siemens Network Services
Head of Network Services, the Siemens unit responsible for the provision of value-added services for power delivery networks, ranging from the operation and maintenance of the networks, to technically-focused asset management support and advisory services. Network Services is a large volume business employing several hundred people located in many service centers around the world.
Ms. Anne Thornton,
Head Siemens Offshore Network Services
Siemens business manager in the UK responsible for the delivery of O&M contracts that include 24/7 emergency response elements. Projects include HVDC interconnector stations, offshore and onshore AC installations and countrywide emergency support contracts. Also responsible for global coordination of offshore operations and maintenance projects.
Mr. Colin McKay,
Siemens Senior Operational Engineer
Colin has operational responsibility for the development of maintenance strategies for the service O&M business in the UK. He has 20+ years experience in maintenance, 12 on HVDC. Has been the lead in a number of maintenance management systems for the electrical and chemical industries. Colin also supports the technical staff in all aspects of substation infrastructure including safety management.
Mr. Stephen Hemphill,
Group Operations Manager Mutual Energy
Responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Mutual's assets which include the Scotland to Northern Ireland (NI) gas transmission pipeline which supplies NI with all of it's natural gas, and the Moyle Interconnector a 500MW HVDC electrical link between the power grids of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Both energy links are critical and strategic components of the NI energy infrastructure.
Stephen is a chartered mechanical engineer approaching 25 years experience in gas and electricity transmission and distribution. Stephen has held technical, commercial and managerial roles within British Gas, Phoenix Natural Gas, Bord Gais Eireann and has been with Mutual Energy since 2004.
Mutual Energy have a relatively unique financial structure whereby their assets are acquired by 100% debt at very low costs of capital. They are maintained, operated and made accessible to energy markets with objective of delivering benefit (lower cost, higher reliability, longevity) to the bill paying energy users who, in effect, underwrite them.
A feature of the mutual model is small in house management team and a reliance on out sourcing key maintenance and operational activities. For example, with the Moyle asset, physical and commercial operation is executed by the local system operator SONI and the maintenance and emergency response is carried out by the OEM of the convertor stations Siemens through a Long Term Maintenance Contract.
