With the growth of electric and hybrid vehicles, lithium-ion batteries play an increasingly important role in the automotive industry. Rechargeable batteries offer a high ratio of energy per unit volume and can be arranged efficiently in packs to power vehicles. Unlike smaller lithium-ion batteries used in home electronics, automotive lithium-ion batteries need robust protection from harsh external conditions, along with adequate venting for temperature and pressure fluctuations.
One critical element of battery packs is venting. Dual-stage venting has proven effective in meeting the needs of automotive battery packs. The first stage equalizes pressure while preventing the ingress of water and contaminants. Stage two venting fully opens in the case of rapid pressure and heat buildup to allow expanding gases to escape, preventing further damage to remaining cells.
Join this highly informative webinar hosted by Donaldson on 22 April to learn about protecting battery pack enclosures with dual-stage venting as well as:
- Why is battery pack venting needed?
- What is single and dual-stage venting?
- How does venting help support the life and reliability of battery packs?
- How does venting apply in the event of a thermal runaway?
- What factors are important when selecting a venting solution for your application?
