What 50 years of Experience with a Brain Dedicated Tool brings to your SBRT Practice
For many years Leksell Gamma Knife has been used as a non-invasive adjunct and alternative to microsurgery and radiation therapy. As cancer treatments have become more refined over recent years with the increased utilization of targeted systemic therapies and more conformal radiation therapy targeting and treatment delivery, survival has improved. This is great news for the patient as they benefit from longer and better quality of life, but it also means that many more of these patients are developing secondary tumors, often in the brain. This situation is increasing the patient burden on already busy oncology departments, with more patients requiring treatment for brain metastases.
This presentation will examine how Leksell Gamma Knife can help fulfill the needs of a modern radiation oncology clinic, providing a gentle and effective solution to the treatment of brain mets and primary malignant tumors. Dr Prasad will also discuss the role of Leksell Gamma Knife radiosurgery in nononcologic conditions as well as operational issues such as staffing, QA requirements, and workflow.
Find out why leading cancer programs have incorporated Leksell Gamma Knife as an integral part of the treatment program.
Presented by
Dheerendra Prasad, MD, MCh, FACRO,
Medical Director, Radiation Medicine, Roswell Park Cancer Institute
Dr. Prasad has the unique distinction of being both a certified Neurosurgeon and a Radiation Oncologist. He has been performing Gamma Knife Radiosurgery since 1992 and has completed more than 8000 procedures to date.
With over 75 papers in peer reviewed journals and as the past President of the International Leksell Gamma Knife Society, he is a pioneer and thought leader in this field. He has been the recipient of the prestigious Lars Leksell Fellowship at the University of Virginia and the Howard Wong Fellowship at the Loma Linda Proton Center. He is a Fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology, and a member of AANS, CNS, ASTRO, ABS and the American and Word Societies of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery.
He currently holds the titles of Professor of Neurosurgery and Radiation Oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and serves as the Medical Director of the Radiation Medicine Department and Director of the Gamma Knife Center.
Dr. Prasad has direct clinical experience with almost all the modalities of radiosurgery in use today.
