Advantages and limits of TPE materials for the medical and pharmaceutical industry
The medical and pharmaceutical industry is a strictly regulated but potentially interesting market for plastics. The various materials are often available as "Medical Grade Plastics". Although this term is often used, it is not clearly and uniformly defined. The industry therefore demanded a standard in order to be able to compare products better. A new standard, VDI 2017, has now been published. It defines for the first time ever plastics for use in medical devices and pharmaceutical packaging and Invitro Diagnostics under the name "Medical Grade Plastics" in accordance with current regulations and legal requirements.
In our webinar we introduce the newly defined term Medical Grade Plastics (MGP) and show what lies behind it. We will also discuss the advantages and limitations of thermoplastic elastomers in this strictly regulated market. This is because this quite new material class is increasingly being used for applications in the medical and pharmaceutical markets. Medical Grade Plastics from KRAIBURG TPE meet the requirements of VDI 2017 and additionally offer numerous advantages to processors, manufacturers and end users.
We at KRAIBURG TPE support you in these industry sectors with a unique service package that ensures the compliance of our THERMOLAST® M materials with strict international standards for biocompatibility, purity and quality. All Medical Grade compounds are free of heavy metals, latex, PVC, and phthalates and offer high purity. A number of selected compounds are tested and certified according to USP Class VI (Chapter 88), ISO 10993-5 (cytotoxicity), ISO 10993-10 (intracutaneous irritation), ISO 10993-11 (acute systemic toxicity), and ISO 10993-4 (hemolysis). The quality assurance of raw materials used in compounding also covers full traceability of batches from our suppliers.
