AmpaCity Case Study: Superconducting Cable for MV Power Supply of Cities
Since April 2014 the AmpaCity Project in Essen, Germany has been in full operation. Integrated in the city centre, Nexans and RWE replaced the conventional High Voltage System with a Superconducting Medium Voltage cable system. The new 10 kV, 40 MVA Superconducting System consists of a HTS (High Temperature Superconductor) cable with a length of 1 km and a Superconducting Fault Current Limiter demonstrating how HTS cables can revolutionize the design of distribution systems in dense urban areas. High Voltage Substations can be moved into the suburban areas which results in a tremendous gain of space in the city center that could be used for other purposes.
This webinar will give an overview on the current status of Superconducting Systems and explain the installation in Essen. Experts of the cable manufacturer Nexans will show the details of the superconducting system and RWE as operator of the system will give insights on the operational experience.
Register now and join our webinar in order to get updated on the latest experience with superconducting cables and to see how the distribution system in city centers can be optimized.
